HTC P4350 review

Herald is an excellent device that has a number of advantages and it comes in excellent packing. It has all the needed functions for taking care of things, and it has a very simple, but solid, and high quality design.

HTC P4350

The device has the dimensions of 109.7x59.2x18 mm and it  weights 174 grams. It has an excellent design, and a very good packing that is very solid and elegant.

The whole upper half is made of metal, and the keyboard mechanism is strengthened with an extra steel plate.

Comparing it to its forebears, the keyboard mechanism is quite modified. It's a first semiautomatic mechanism of this manufacturer - keyboard opens and closes with a light boost, and the spring finishes the job afterwards with a  "click" sound.

Keyboard itself is also improved. At first it seems like the one on the TyTN, but it is even better. It is easier to type on, which enables you to write faster; the new position of the context keys which are now exactly under the matching fields on the screen, and finally, two blue LE diodes that signalize the status of Shift and Fn keys.

The lighting of the keys could be better, and maybe the context keys should also be lighted better ( you can hardly see them in dark).

The screen on Herald is a very good TFT touchscreen with the 240x320 pixel resolution, that shows 65 thousand colors. It has extremly intense background lighting, very good asperity and excellent color reproduction.

The camera on this device is a 2.0 megapixel camera, without a flashlight, but with macro, boost and timer functions. It shoots very good pictures whether it is day or night time. It can also record videos.

Herald is drived by Texas Instruments OMAP 850, 201MHz. Heralds processor is quite adequate for every day use, thanks to the Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade.

HTC P4350 Aplications are quickly opened, crossings from vertical to horizontal screen display is very fast, and Internet Explorer has been improved. Bluetooth version is 2.0, WLAN 802.11 b and g.

Bluetooth stack has a range of new profiles (A2DP, PAN, Printing and FTP); File Explorer has now the possibility of browsing through the devices connected with Bluetooth; integration of SIM contacts with contacts on the phone is quite improved, just like SMS support.

Memory card access support has been added through USB, and GPS support has also been improved.

Reception and sound quality is very good. It also has an Audio Manager - interface similar to iPOD, for music collection browsing and managing. HTC added an excellent Camera application, very good Comm Manager, a unique panel for wireless subcurcuit managing, Adobe Acrobat LE integrated into ROM and a few extra panels in Settings - Task Manager, which enables program closing by pressing the "x" in the upper right corner, instead of the traditional hiding.

It has no driver that enables the usage of side navigation slider, instead its purpose is for ringtone volume regulation.

Herald has a 1130 mAh Li-lon battery that can last up to two days of moderate usage.

It probably should be more endurable, considering that Herald is an excellent device, with a number of great functions that require a lot of battery power.

ADVANTAGES: dimensions, design, camera
SHORTCOMINGS: no flashlight, battery
